Mechado is one of the favorite dishes among Filipino home as part of weekly menu or on occasion and gatherings. Aside from beef, other meat like pork and chicken can be substituted for it. This dish is somewhat similar to other Filipino dishes such as the Kaldereta, Estofado, and as well as the Afritada because of the base ingredient used which is tomato sauce.



kusina ingredients 
  • 1 kg beef sirloin, cut into cubes
  • 2 pcs lemongrass, white part only, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp McCormick Ground Cumin
  • ½ tsp Club House Ground Cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp each McCormick Curry Seasoning and
  • ¼ tsp McCormick Club House Chili Powder
  • 1½ cups Kitchen Basics Original Beef Cooking Stock
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup each cubed carrot and cubed potato
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
kusina instructions
1. In a large sauce pan on medium high heat, add oil. Sauté ginger, onion and lemongrass for 1 minute.

2. Add the beef, cinnamon, curry powder, chili powder and cumin powder. Cook until beef is browned on all sides.

3. Add tomato sauce, beef stock, soy sauce, carrots and potatoes. Add sugar and cover.

4. Simmer over low heat until meat becomes tender, internal temperature reaching at least 160°F (71°C), and the sauce thickens.
